(March 10, 1946 - March 9, 2010)

Leave A Condolence

Mrs. Patsy Bingham Hodges, beloved mother and sister, went to meet the Lord on Tuesday, March 9th, 2010. Born March 10, 1945, she lived her entire life in Watauga County on the family farm where she was born and grew up. Those who knew her also knew her passion for her family, faith, and country. As the ninth of eleven children, she was always involved in the lives of her family and could be counted on to help with celebrations including planning family reunions, directing weddings and hosting holiday gatherings. She especially loved Christmas not only because it celebrated the birth of her Savior, but it meant an opportunity to be with family. Friends were an important part of her life. She loved meeting with close friends at Mary’s Kitchen each morning for breakfast to exchange ideas and opinions, and she loved baking pies and cakes for friends and neighbors and helping those in need. As her health failed, family, friends, and neighbors stepped in to care for her. Patsy’s faith and her church were the anchors of her life. She had been an active member at Oak Grove Baptist Church from an early age and over the years taught Sunday School, was active in the Women’s Missionary Union, and supported all the church programs. Patsy’s love for her country, her determined, independent spirit, and her remarkable sense of humor endeared her to everyone who knew her. She was truly one of a kind. Surviving are one daughter, Pam Hodges of Franklinton, NC; four brothers: John J. Bingham and wife Joan of Kernersville, Mack Bingham and wife Judy of Yanceyville, Ellis Bingham of Mebane and Danny Bingham and wife Peggy of Rocky Mount; and, five sisters, Betty Wright of Orlando, Florida, Janet Moretz and husband Bill of Deep Gap, Margie Townsend, Barbara Townsend and husband Ted and Mary Pritchard and husband Herb; and one sister-in-law, Rena Lowrance and husband Jim all of Boone. She is also survived by a host of special friends including Donna Adams, Pat Gorman, Charlotte Pennell and Treva Story as well as her devoted pet and companion, Blue. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lowell Hodges, her parents McCoy and Kenova Bingham, one sister Peggy Amburn and one brother-in-law Ray Amburn. Funeral services for Patsy Bingham Hodges will be conducted Saturday morning, March 13th, at 11:00 AM at Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel with Rev. Scott Courtney officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until 11:00 prior to the service at Austin & Barnes. Graveside services will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens, Boone, NC. The family respectfully requests no flowers and asks that memorials be made to the Annie Armstrong Home Missions Program at Oak Grove Baptist Church at 306 Oak Grove Road, Boone, or to a charity of donor’s choice.
