Obituary Picture     Hiram Brooks, Jr., age 90, of Linville Creek Road, Vilas, died Friday morning, January 29, 2010 at Watauga Medical Center. He was born September 6, 1919 in Rogersville, Tennessee to Hiram Brooks, Sr. and Nannie Kate Carpenter Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a member and Deacon at Brushy Fork Baptist Church. He founded Brook's Plumbing and Heating, Inc. in 1947. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
    Mr. Brooks is survived by, his wife, Reba Bingham Brooks; one son, Larry Brooks and wife Melanie, of Vilas; two grandsons, Jason Brooks and wife Laura and Justin Brooks and wife Marta, and four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ashley, Nolan and Kara Brooks, all of Vilas; one sister, Ann Anderson of Cookeville, Tennessee; and one brother, Tom Brooks and wife, Rose, of Kingsport, Tennessee.
    He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Micah Weston Brooks, one sister, Elizabeth Keener, and three brothers, J. E., John and Jasper Brooks.
    Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, January 31, 2009 at 4 o'clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ernie Richards, Rev. Richard Baird and Rev. Herbert Parunak. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 until 4 o'clock, prior to services, at Austin and Barnes. Entombment will be private.
    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Gideons International, Boone Camp, Post Office Box 3602, Boone, NC. 28607.
