Calvin C. Byers, age 88, of Calvin Byers Road, Boone, died Sunday evening, June 7, 2009 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir.
He was born December 17, 1920 in Watauga to James Wade and Mary Proffit Byers. Mr. Byers served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a plumber by trade.
Mr. Byers is survived by; his wife of 67 years, Ruby Bodenhamer Byers; his daughter, Mary Williams, of Charlotte; and two granddaughters, Lisa and Michelle Smith, both of Charlotte.
A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Blaine and Worth Byers, two sisters, Faye Byers and Ezelle Byers Shoemake and his son-in-law, Johnny Williams.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock at the Meat Camp Baptist Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Tom Jackson. The family will receive friends following the graveside service and at other times at the residence.
